WE MAKE IT HAPPEN
Preserving History, Building Futures
WHAT WE PRIDE OURSELVES IN

ADAPTIVE REUSE
Our adaptive reuse projects have transformed dilapidated buildings into thriving business spaces. By leasing these restored properties to successful businesses, we have contributed to the economic vitality of downtown Fullerton. Our portfolio includes a diverse range of buildings, each with its own historic charm, now housing modern enterprises.

FULLERTON TRAIN STATION PROJECT
Our commitment to historic preservation culminated in our collaboration with the City of Fullerton on the Santa Fe train station restoration project. The station, once dilapidated with a original "Baggage Room" full of old outdated telecommunications equipment, a funky railroad jail built in the 1960's that enclosed the elegant outside seating area known as the "Portal" and a Freight House that was overflowing with garbage. The building was meticulously restored to its former glory. This project is a testament to our dedication and expertise in preserving Fullerton's historic landmarks.

HISTORIC HOUSE RELOCATIONS
In addition to our commercial projects, we have moved eight historic houses in Fullerton. We identified these houses based on their specific architecture and historical significance, and we relocated them to new properties, even giving them away to grateful recipients. This effort has further enhanced our reputation as community-minded preservers of Fullerton's historic heritage.

Pioneers in Preservation
& Adaptive Reuse
Since our establishment as general contractors in 1984, Bushala Brothers, Inc. has been at the forefront of historic preservation in Fullerton. Our journey began in 1985 when California State Legislature, adopted Chapter 9, which mandated seismic retrofitting for unreinforced masonry buildings. This chapter was a response to the significant seismic risks identified in older structures, particularly those built before modern building codes were implemented.
The legislation aimed to ensure that these buildings were brought up to code to withstand seismic activity, thereby reducing the risk of collapse and injury during earthquakes. This presenting us with unique opportunities to shift from building multi-family development projects to preserving and restoring several Fullerton's historic buildings. We were among the first in Fullerton to embrace the retrofit program, retrofitting unreinforced masonry buildings in downtown Fullerton. This initiative was crucial as it allowed older buildings to either be brought up to code or face demolition. Our expertise in seismic retrofitting not only saved many historic structures but also ensured their safety and longevity.
